HRFN Mourns Loss of Member and Leader

Ayotzinapa Documentary screening and talk-back led by Ana Paula Hernández.

Dear HRFN Community:

As some of you may have already heard, we write to share the devastating news about the loss of our amazing member and leader Ana Paula Hernández, from the Fund for Global Human Rights.

Ana Paula was killed in a road accident on April 7th in Guatemala along with another Fund for Global Human Rights’ colleague Sally O’Neil, their long-term trusted driver Daniel Tuc, and a Mayan activist and ally Ana Velasquez.

It is truly a heartbreaking loss. While we didn’t know the others, Ana Paula was such an amazing and committed activist with a big heart, soul, and spirit. She will be terribly missed by our whole community. We loved working with her on the Mexico City conference, and every piece of it that she was involved in was exceptional [see the above picture of Ana Paula in the middle with the green scarf from the Ayotzinapa Documentary screening and talk-back with activists and families]. She was exceptional and made an impact in so many people’s lives.

Our hearts are with the colleagues, friends, and family of these very special souls. Sending everyone comfort and love in this difficult time. Here are a few statements about this devastating loss from GFHR, Semillas, SEIAF, and others.

With deepest sympathies,

Mona, Rebecca, Camille, Rachel and Rebekah
