Hosted by The Black Feminist Fund
Languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, and Kenyan Sign Language
Increasing militarization of everyday life is reshaping communities and the spaces where people live and gather. From heavily policed neighborhoods to pervasive surveillance, the militarization of public space is a lived reality for communities across the Americas and the Caribbean. This conversation spotlights the work of Black feminists confronting the growing militarization of public space and everyday life, featuring:
- Jaimee A. Swift, Founder and Executive Director, Black Women Radicals
- Jéssica Murillo, Director, MUDE
- Nathalie E. Vilgrain, Co-founder and General Coordinator, MARIJÀN
- Sofía Marcía, Co-Executive Director, Urgent Action Fund for Latin America and the Caribbean
Together, the speakers will explore how Black feminist movements across the Americas and the Caribbean are analyzing and responding to militarization, from the expansion of the prison-industrial complex and military occupations to armed conflicts and imperialist practices, while also building powerful alternatives rooted in liberation, justice, and collective care.
The event offers an important opportunity for funders, organizers, and allies to deepen transnational analysis by learning directly from the knowledge, strategies, and leadership of Black feminists on the frontlines of this work.
