Jessica is a human rights advocate and strategist committed to strengthening civil society and advancing social and climate justice. For over 15 years, she has led strategic initiatives across academia, NGOs, and global advocacy spaces through impactful programs, inclusive collaborations, and navigating the intersections of human rights, democracy, and social justice. She previously served on the senior leadership team at CIVICUS, where she helped shape global advocacy and solidarity efforts during a period of intensifying civic space threats. Jessica is the Director of the Better Preparedness Initiative (BPI) . The initiative brings together funders from the human rights, peace and security, and humanitarian sectors with social movements to mobilize resources for those on the frontlines of intersecting crises and closing civic space. She brings an intersectional lens, deep research experience, and a commitment to care-centered, long-term approaches to movement resilience. Jessica holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology and Sociology and an M.A. in Migration Studies from Paris VII University. Born and raised in Colombia, she now lives in France with her family. She speaks Spanish, French, English, and a bit of Italian, and enjoys strong Colombian coffee and every imaginable version of arepas. Her most grounding place, besides her home, is an annual yoga retreat by the sea in Colombia.
