On February 6, 2023, a devastating earthquake struck southern Turkey and northwest Syria, marking it one of the deadliest natural disasters since the 2010 Haiti earthquake. In the immediate aftermath, girls and young feminists in Turkey and Syria responded with remarkable speed and agility—and they continue to lead critical crisis and humanitarian response efforts that remain urgently needed. Even with the rapidly shifting context the analysis, experiences and recommendations shared in this report are as relevant as ever — if not more so. Syria, Turkey, and the broader region urgently call for material solidarity and collective action. We must push for feminist resourcing in crisis response through a decolonial approach that centres the leadership and experience of communities in the region.
What would the world be like if it were shaped by girls’ dreams?
Asking ourselves this question implies an act of radical resistance against adult-centred thinking, the patriarchal system, and the structures that seek to stifle the transformative potential of girls and young women. For them, dreaming is not a mere form of escapism, but a profound process of questioning and (re)imagining. In their dreams, they do not draw fantasy castles, but build tangible and collective alternatives for a more just future. They dream of accessible playgrounds where everyone can play and feel safe; of communities where coexistence is based on equity; of safe streets to walk on; and of clear forests and rivers where the defence of life is placed at the centre. They dream of systems where collective well-being outweighs individualistic competition.
This Plan of Action offers a strategic and operational roadmap to support the effective implementation of CEDAW General Recommendation No. 39. It is designed to guide FIMI, Indigenous women’s networks and organizations, and global allies in aligning advocacy and action with FIMI’s values, principles, and programmatic vision. The plan reflects the priorities of regional networks and the Executive Board, and is rooted in international human rights standards, including CEDAW, as well as FIMI’s own Strategic Plan. It aims to advance the full realization of the individual and collective rights of Indigenous women at all levels.

The first-ever comprehensive analysis of funding for intersectional organizing across the diverse regions of CEECCNA driven by the need to spotlight lived experiences and political agendas of regional social justice movements, whose efforts are critical yet often overlooked and underfunded. The research also points to the challenges and possibilities of driving funding to movements around the world that are operating amidst crisis, restricted civic space, and attacks on democratic institutions.
