Research Briefing: Women’s Funds’ Critical Role in Addressing the Trust Gap in Philanthropy

Events AHR Research Funding Ecosystem

Organized by HRFN and Prospera—International Network of Women’s Funds

For years, our Advancing Human Rights research has signaled disparities in how funders in the Global North are resourcing human rights organizations and movements in their own regions versus those based in the Global South and East. We find that organizations in the Global South and East have considerably less access to funding—including flexible funding—even when funders are supporting human rights action in these regions.

Our findings illustrate the crucial role women’s funds play in moving flexible funding to human rights movements in the Global South and East. They also raise questions about the barriers women’s funds face.

In this briefing for Prospera members, we will explore opportunities for advocacy and collaboration to push for more direct and flexible funding for human rights organizations and movements globally.

This briefing is for Prospera members.

Spanish and French interpretation and English closed captioning will be available.
