dialogue between donors & Women, trans and non-binary Human rights defenders: protection and care to transform a world in crisis
Convened by IM-Defensoras and Urgent Action Fund-LAC, and supported by UN Women Colombia
Women, trans and non-binary Human Rights Defenders are living in unprecedented times: violence and risks are on the rise with each passing second. Convulsive times also represent opportunities for resistance and transformation. A chance to build sustainability, alliances, solidarity and support the critical work of defenders advancing alternatives.
In this dialogue, diverse women and trans defenders from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Central America will share insights about their situations, contexts and core needs. This will be space to learn about and be part of the alternatives and changes that defenders are building in their territories and communities.
Donors will be asked to engage in an active dialogue about what it means to support holistic protection and collective care for women and trans defenders in increasingly risky and violent contexts, and to reflect on how funding can be both a key lever to support protection or a risk that can jeopardize human rights defense work in the territories.
During this courageous exchange donors will be invited to share strategies of effectively funding holistic protection and cultures of care and their experiences in sustaining funding and movements in highly risky and closed contexts within Latin America and beyond.
When: November 29th, 10:00am – 5:00 pm
Where: Oaxaca, Mexico
