HRFN’s Advancing Human Rights research offers a comprehensive look at the global landscape of human rights funding. By analyzing foundation grants data annually, we provide valuable insights into current trends and shifts over time.
Our annual snapshots of human rights funding offer a detailed picture of the field in a given year. In 2018, we took a deeper dive into long-term trends by analyzing grantmaking data from 2011 to 2015. To ensure accurate comparisons across years, we focused on a subset of 561 funders who had consistently reported human rights grants during this period.
While the total funding amount for the trends analysis is slightly lower than the cumulative total for all five years, this approach allows us to more effectively track changes and identify emerging patterns in human rights philanthropy. Explore our findings through the links below.
We are grateful for the contributions our research partners: Candid, Ariadne – European Funders for Social Change and Human Rights and Prospera–International Network of Women’s Funds.
