Membership Director
Sara AbouGhazal is a feminist organizer and fiction writer. For the past 15 years, she has co-created and directed local feminist initiatives (Alwarsha and Sawtalniswa) in Lebanon. Her primary focus has been on producing feminist knowledge and documenting grassroots movements, as well as building local coalitions between queer, migrant, and refugee communities. Sara has also co-founded and led the WHRDMENA Coalition, a regional feminist organization, from 2014 until 2023, where she built bridges between feminist movements in 12 countries, centering solidarity and support in response to the shrinking space, especially for Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) working to defend Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).   She is a board member of the Association for Women in Development (AWID) and was appointed Chair of the WHRDMENA Coalition's board of directors. She is the author of "Ehlami Ya Sidi". Her non-fiction pieces appear periodically in numerous media platforms. Sara has developed a passion for fermentation and foraging, which has led her to make a lot of natural sodas and roam forests in Belgium, picking wild herbs and fruits.
