Alternative Approaches to Addressing Violence Against Human Rights Defenders

Join us for a webinar drawing on the experiences of the Zero Tolerance Initiative, a rights holders’ response to the gaps in the Human Rights Council’s resolution on environmental defenders, and other existing efforts to protect defenders in relation to business projects. The webinar will draw on the situation in Peru in particular, to illustrate why these alternative approaches are needed. We will also discuss how they are complemented by strategic legal responses, through flexible, proactive legal support and rapid legal response being made available to indigenous and local communities under threat, drawing on learnings from the Strategic Legal Response Centre (SLRC). The SLRC offers rapid legal support to forest communities around the world, drawing together a strong international and local community of practice
