We invite you to join us as we gather in Oaxaca, Mexico 30 November – 2 December, inspired by HRFN’s new vision:
- We envision a peaceful future where rights are protected and upheld, the planet is cared for, and all people can live and love with dignity.
- We believe in co-creating an ethical resourcing community that innovates with heart and shifts power and money in support of human rights.
- We commit to transforming systems of oppression by uplifting voices from the Global South and East and those leading social change; centering racial justice; and celebrating all forms of justice, including at the intersections of race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, disability, climate, digital security, economic and migrant rights, and beyond.
At HRFN’s global conference, we will challenge ourselves to craft new, visionary narratives to guide us toward an abundant, resilient global funding ecosystem.
We will spark focused action. Though we do not have specific tracks – precisely because we acknowledge the intersectional nature of this work – key issues such as climate justice, global racial and gender justice, and crisis and closing space are woven throughout. We will partner with Prospera – International Network of Women’s Funds on the final day to deepen this work.
In discovery journeys, you will have the opportunity to advance strategic and collective thinking in order to better resource human rights movements in all their diversity. Propose sessions the field needs today.
As we have always done at HRFN gatherings, we will find common ground – between Global South and Global North, private and public foundations, activists, and funders. We are all being called upon. And we are all vital in building a more just funding ecosystem.

As we come together, we ground ourselves in the place and current moment:
🌾 We acknowledge and honor the land of the Zapotec, Mixe and Mixtec, Afro-Mexicans, and other ethnic groups where our conference will take place. We honor the deep-rooted legacy of Indigenous sovereignty and center the defense of land, territories, and our planet’s natural treasures, without which life as we know it cannot continue. We celebrate the resilience of human rights movements across the region and around the world guiding our vision and strategies toward justice-oriented futures.
🌾 We recognize that our world is on fire. Our survival is inextricably linked to our care for the planet and one another. We invite participants to bring an intersectional, climate justice framework. At HRFN, we have struggled with the climate impact of global travel and, as a small act, will dedicate resources to offset our staff’s travel emissions.
🌾 We acknowledge that we are still in a global pandemic. We recognize the many lives lost and the far-reaching and disproportionate impacts of Covid, particularly on Black, Indigenous, racialized, and poor communities and others already shouldering the burden of inequality. Our health protocols are an attempt to navigate the balance of being in a shared space and caring for one another’s wellness.
