Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend?

HRFN’s Funding Futures Festival is open to all HRFN members, as well as peer funders and individuals dedicated to resourcing human rights movements. The primary purpose is to connect as funders, and we welcome representatives from grantmaking entities or philanthropic support organizations (e.g. board members, staff, grant advisory committee members, etc.).

Registration of non-HRFN members will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

This is a non-solicitation space, and attending for fundraising purposes is not allowed.

Can civil society organizations/NGOs/activists attend?

Non-members, including movement organizations, are welcome to attend where they have a focus on advancing resourcing across the funding ecosystem. HRFN will review the registration of non-members and, in rare cases where organizations are not eligible, they will be notified within a week and issued a full refund.

I am unaffiliated with an organization. Can I attend?

Individuals unaffiliated with a grantmaking or philanthropic organization are welcome to attend. HRFN will review the registration of non-members and, in rare cases where individuals are not eligible, they will be notified within a week and issued a full refund.

Can I become an HRFN member now and get the member rate?

Yes! Visit our website to learn membership, see our eligibility criteria,  and join the network.

How can I find out if I am eligible to attend the conference?

If you are not sure if you are eligible to attend, please email conference@hrfn.org. Please include the name of your organization and a description of your programming.

What happens if I register and I am not approved?

If your registration is not approved, you will be notified within a week and issued a full refund to your payment method.

What does registration cover?

Registration covers the cost of all conference activities (on-site space, materials, facilitation, transportation for movement site visits, etc.). Meals will be covered during the event (breakfast, lunch, and coffee breaks Wednesday through Friday). Registration also covers one joint dinner during the conference, as well as the optional welcome dinner on 29 November.

Does the Festival provide hotel rooms?

HRFN has a block of rooms at local hotels near to the conference proceedings. During registration you will have an opportunity to confirm if you are interested in reserving a room in one of these blocks. Rooms will be assigned based on availability and include some accommodations with wheelchair access.

For attendees who prefer to book their own accommodation, we will provide a list of local hotels in the area in the coming days.

Does HRFN offer scholarships?

HRFN has a limited amount of scholarships (up to $1,500). These are specifically intended for small organizations who will broaden and deepen the perspective within the global funding ecosystem. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and closed once funding has been allocated. To inquire, email conference@hrfn.org.

Does HRFN provide funding for people who have sessions accepted for the Discovery Journey or Open Gallery?

No. While we hope to bring a broad range of participants, we are not able to provide additional funding for session leads. We do have a very limited number of scholarships for small organizations who deepen the perspective within the global funding ecosystem. (See above).

Are there discounts for Discovery Session speakers?

All Discovery Session speakers, presenters and facilitors should be registered for the HRFN confernece. It is important to underscore that we are not looking for speakers or panels in the traditional sense for Discovery Journeys. These are small strategy sessions (5-15 people) led by conference participants. While we welcome a range of participants at the conference (see eligibility), we invite you to see this as a peer-learning opportunity rather than a speaker/presentation role.

Will there be interpretation into languages other than English?

Simultaneous interpretation from/to English and Spanish will be available during the Festival. The availability of additional languages, including sign language interpretation, will be based on demand.

What are the accessibility accommodations?

HRFN’s Funding Futures Festival strives to center access. We have a number of rooms with wheelchair access available and will ensure the spaces are accessible for all abilities.

During registration, we will gather accommodation information. If you have additional questions, please contact conference@hrfn.org.

Do I need to be an HRFN member to submit a discovery journey or open gallery session proposal?

No. Sessions can be submitted by HRFN members, as well as by all individuals from philanthropic organizations.

Can I share a report or present work we have been doing?

Yes, sign up for the Open Gallery. This will be a curated live gallery space where people can bring digital or printed materials. We will also share any relevant materials on our website for those not in attendance. Proposals are due 15 Sept.
